This book introduces the construction and operation status of China’s BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), reviews the development history of BDS construction and its operating principles, and mainly presents the latest achievements in BDS construction and applications. The book systematically introduces the basic theories and methods of BeiDou satellite navigation and positioning, including the BeiDou time system, coordinate system, satellite orbits, BeiDou signal structure, principles of BeiDou receivers, and basic algorithms of BeiDou navigation and positioning. The advantages and features of the BeiDou system are provided in the book, and it shows detailed differences from other navigation satellite systems, especially in precise single-point positioning and short-message communication. In addition, this book discusses the methods of BeiDou integrated positioning with other GNSS (such as GPS, Galileo), and expounds the high-precision performance gains brought by multiple GNSS to users. It takes BeiDou navigation and positioning in intelligent mobile terminals as an example to illustrate the application methods of BeiDou in mass-consumer applications, which are the field with the largest number of users.
