Paco Gómez (Pamplona 1918-Madrid 1998) steht gleichrangig neben seinen Zeitgenossen Aaron Siskind, Brassai, Edward Weston oder Paul Strand, mit denen er die Originalität und viele Themen gemeinsam hat. Ohne seine Fotografien wäre die Qualität und der visuelle Reichtum der spanischen Fotografie von heute nicht zu verstehen. Alle in diesem Band veröffentlichten Fotos sind nach den Originalen reproduziert. Design und Layout des Bandes sind inspiriert von Zeitschriften und Büchern der Sechziger Jahre.
Paco Gómez (Pamplona 1918-Madrid 1998) was one of the most outstanding photographers of the Afal Group (1956-1963) and the so-called School of Madrid, responsible for the renewal of Spanish photography in the 1960s. We might describe him as the poet of wall, vestiges, bare spaces, and small objects. His observant vision of the world is the product of a sensibility rooted in reality yet charged with trascendent symbolic meaning.
This book is published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Fundación Foto Colectania in Barcelona, an organization which since 2001 has safeguarded, administered and disseminated the work of Paco Gómez. The exhibition is the result of intense research by the curator Laura Terré, a specialist in Spanish photography, and includes some never before published photographs, along with Gómez's more familiar images.
