Beschreibung

After hosting the GOR purely virtually for the first time in 2020, we are looking forward to the second virtual GOR conference. We have decided to do so this year as well, since the pandemic situation does not yet offer one hundred percent planning certainty for an onsite conference. However, we have also decided to do so because we can look back on a very successful virtual conference. We are still convinced that not only the topics and methods we encounter daily in our research are constantly changing, but also the way we meet and network today and in the future. This is why we enter the virtual world of conferences again with the same confidence and curiosity that accompanies us in our everyday digital research. As in previous years, we have a great conference programme lined up for you including keynotes, discussions, presentations, awards, posters, workshops and much more. You can choose between four simultaneous conference tracks: Track A covers “Survey Research: Advancements in Online and Mobile Web Surveys”. Track B deals with “Data Science: From Big Data to Smart Data”. Track C features “Politics, Public Opinion and Communication”, and Track D covers “Digital Methods in Applied Research”. In addition, we have three award competitions: i) the GOR Best Practice Award 2021 for the best practice study from applied online research, ii) the GOR Thesis Award 2021 for the best thesis in online research, iii) the GOR Poster Award 2021 for the best poster of the conference. The DGOF Best Paper Award 2021 for the best paper in online research will also be awarded at GOR. Our keynotes this year both take a look at the digitalisation of our industry in areas that are not at the centre of daily attention. On Thursday, 9 September, Mirta Galesic, Professor at the Santa Fe Institute, presents us online why “Election polling is not dead: Forecasts can be improved using wisdom-of-crowds questions”. And on Friday, 10 September, Christina Elmer, Professor for Digital Journalism and Data Journalism at TU Dortmund, will talk online about the impact of the pandemic on modern data journalism: “Analytics at its Limit: How the Pandemic Challenges Data Journalism, Forces New Formats and Reveals Blind Spots”. During the two days you can expect a balanced mixture of video presentations, live sessions and interaction. The focus will always be on research content, but also on the conference participants. Especially the interactive, the getting to know each other and the discussion is our priority and so some innovative formats are waiting for you. We will end the first day of the conference programme together at an extended Virtual GOR 21 Party. Be curious! We are particularly grateful for the enthusiastic support of and collaboration with our partners at HTW Berlin: Prof. Holger Lütters and his team. We would also like to thank our sponsors and media partners. And, of course, a big THANKS to you, the conference participants, presenters, and speakers at this event!
