For years, the photographer Walter Schels accompanied more than twenty young people who feel like girls, but were born in the body of a boy or vice versa. The sensitive portraits bring the identity and personality of the portrayed close to the viewer. They show the path to becoming one with oneself. In interviews, the trans youths tell of solidarity and rejection, of early experiences with parents, friends, school, of the transformation of their own bodies and of their first love.
Walter Schels is considered one of the most important German portrait photographers.
