H.-Michael Saar combines two lifelong passions: technology and sailing.
He first discovered his love for sailing in the early 1990s and soon earned all the major certifications – from Sportbootführerschein Binnen and See to SKS and ultimately SSS. Around the same time, he deepened his expertise in information technology and, in 1996, founded ISY GmbH, a company devoted entirely to electronic navigation.
For more than two decades, Saar and his team supported thousands of skippers, helping them bring modern navigation technology safely on board. Along the way, he noticed a recurring problem: while navigation software was becoming increasingly sophisticated, accessible and up-to-date documentation in German was hard to find.
This realization led to the founding of Saar-Verlag in 2014. Since then, H.-Michael Saar has focused on writing clear, practical handbooks for navigation apps — sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the point where technology meets the sea.
