Der Autor H.-Michael Saar kommt aus dem IT-Bereich und hat früh seine Leidenschaft für den Wassersport zu seinem Beruf gemacht. Über 24 Jahre hat er mit seiner ISY GmbH Segler auf der ganzen Welt mit elektronischen Seekartensystemen bedient und betreut. 2007 hat er sich mit der ECDIS-Zertifizierung qualifiziert auf ausrüstungspflichtigen Seeschiffen Navigationssysteme zu installieren und betreuen zu dürfen. Seine Segelscheine (bis hinauf zum SSS) hat er bereits in den 90er Jahren gemacht.
Zunehmend sind Sportschiffer heute mit Navigations-Apps auf dem Tablet unterwegs und müssen sich mühsam, meist ohne eine qualifizierte Anleitung, durch komplexe Anwendungen quälen. Das hat H.-Michael Saar erkannt und bringt seine Jahrzehnte lange Erfahrung in das Schreiben von Handbüchern ein – natürlich auf Deutsch.
