In 2018, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, KFAS held an international design competition for the new KFAS Headquarters and Conference Center in Salmiya, Kuwait. Forty-three designs from 19 different countries were submitted, of those a jury consisting of leading international and local architects selected the top four designs in December 2018. On 356 pages with more than 1,000 full color illustrations (model pictures, site plans, floor plans and architectural renderings), this book features all submitted 43 designs including the jury reviews, the names of the participating teams, and quotes from the designers’ original narratives. Furthermore, this illustrated publication includes additional detailed essays on KFAS, the competition procedure, and the many people behind the creative decisions. The book also acknowledges the variety, richness and excellence coming from architectural competitions, and adds a new perspective to the current architectural debate in Kuwait and in the Middle East.
