Starting with one of the oldest pieces of jewellery around 75 000 years ago the author researches the reasons why someone has invented something which supports daily life beyond the struggle of existence. Within jewellery we can symbolize our thoughts and desires since then. Up to now we find 25 reasons why to wear jewellery. A short introduction about the archaeological and ethnological roots leads over to 25 charming short stories all around jewellery.

Barbara Schmidt
Barbara Schmidt’s passion for jewellery began early. As an apprentice she learned to be a goldsmith in Munich, worked with several masters and artists of their field and studied jewellery design at the Zeichenakademie in Hanau. From the University of Birmingham she graduated with dinstinction with a Masters in Design Management.
Since 1991 she has been working independently as a jewellery designer and teaching at various institutions. Since 2005 she heads the Academy for Gestaltung and Design of the Chamber of Crafts of Munich and Upper Bavaria.
She lives in Munich with her family and is researching the origins of jewellery and design.
