Preface
The conference series „International Meeting on Chemical Sensors“ has established itself as one of
the top forums in the world to exchange new ideas in chemosensing. Hence it is a great pleasure and
honor for me to have acted host of its 17
th
event held July 15-19, 2018 in Vienna. The present
proceedings summarize the scientific program of IMCS2018, which comprised four plenary lectures,
more than 30 invited oral talks, more than 150 oral presentations, and around than 270 Poster
presentations.
Gas sensing and Biosensing cover the two largest tracks within the conference and hence also these
proceedings. They are of course by far not restricted to these: Fundamental aspects such as
nanomaterials and nanostructures, biomimetics, and sensor array technologies to name but a few
also play a prominent role. The same can be said for emerging devices as well as application
scenarios, especially in the areas of (personal) safety, healthcare and diagnostics, and deployment of
sensors in real-life environments.
In this sense I hope that the present proceedings will be as pleasant and informative to read, as a
good conference should be. May readers find inspiration for their own research or just enjoy a
spotlight on sensor science of the year 2018.
