Technical progress in shock wave generation and lithotripter design has made treatment procedures easier and more convenient. However, results are strongly dependent on proper use of the technique. This book introduces readers to the nature of shock waves and their essential features for medical use. Two renowned experts in the field of lithotripsy provide tips and tricks for best fragmentation results and practical guidance for clinical routine. The second part of the book deals with a relatively new field of shock wave application in urology: The stimulation effect of shock waves is efficiently used to treat various chronic pain diseases such as chronic pelvic pain syndrome. A potential neural working mechanism for chronic pain in general, and for pain relief by shock wave stimulation, completes this publication.
