In Roman times, lead was an important commodity that was mined on a large scale in the mining centres of various provinces and transported in the form of solid ingots to all provinces of the Roman Empire. This volume provides for the first time data on more than 2,700 Roman lead ingots discovered within the Roman Empire. Through the innovative combination of epigraphic, archaeological and archaeometallurgical research methods, it provides a basis for gaining deeper insights into ancient economic history in the field of metal extraction and raw material distribution.
