Digitization in technology and society is advancing inexorably
In the world of technology, it is now completely normal for devices and machines to communicate virtually with each other on their own. Bluetooth, WiFi or web interfaces are used to configure, report, control and monitor. This works not only in a “smart home” with an intelligent refrigerator or home thermostat, but also in the industrial environment on a large scale. In Germany, the term Industry 4.0 (I4.0) has become established for this digitization; worldwide, these activities are referred to as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
