The recognition of their professional qualifications is crucial to ensuring that foreign skilled workers are integrated into the labour market in a manner appropriate to their level of training. In order to practise a regulated occupation, recognition is even a necessity. Persons with a qualification from a third country who would like to work in a German healthcare profession for which academic qualifications are required have to complete a knowledge test if substantial differences are determined. In summer 2017, the BIBB Recognition Monitoring Project carried out a survey among the test's competent authorities in order to establish the success rate for the occupations of doctor, dentist and pharmacist. The results show that the majority of the test participants clear this hurdle on the way to obtaining a licence to practice medicine in Germany (approbation). However, the success rate among the occupations varies.
