PREFACE: During World War I four prisoner camps were proceeded in Thuringia: - Bad Colberg – a prisoner camp for officers - Langensalza - Erfurt - Ohrdruf About the history of prisoner camps in Thuringia nearly nobody researched or published something. While preparing my book about the history of the „Prisoner camp Langensalza from the 20th of November 1914 to the 18th of March 1919“ there were two quite conflicting depictions. On the one hand there was Prof. Dr. Heinrich Kionka (1868-1941), on the other hand I found notes of a French doctor who went back to France and published them on 21 August 1915 in the French magazine L’Illustration. Rose-Marie Charlot-Biehling supported my literature project decisively. Her grandfather was in the prisoner camp of Langensalza and fled to his homeland in 1919. In this connection Charlot-Biehlig translated the very interesting play “L’ANGE EN SALZA” (The angel in Salza) by P.-J. Estibotte. A few years later he was a professor at the Ecole Normale d’Instituteurs (a college for teachers) in Perpignan (Esplanades). This description gives a deep insight into a prisoner camp (here Langensalza) shortly before the end of the world war in 1918. About the prisoner camp for officers in Bad Colberg I found – except of different prisoner money – no further considerable information.
