Platforms and the Moving Image offers a multifaceted look at how digital platforms shape and are shaped by economic, cultural, and political forces. Through diverse methodologies—archival research, social media ethnography, and textual analysis—the essays investigate the global movements of film and video formats, the platformization of cultural industries, and the evolving nature of media consumption. The volume emphasizes the importance of considering digital labor, media infrastructures, and user practices in understanding platforms’ role in contemporary society.
The collection is a collaboration of the DFG Graduate Research Program “Configurations of Film,” the Concordia University’s Platform Lab, and the Digital Cinema-Hub (DiCi-Hub).
