Beschreibung

“Gap Trap Laugh” is an interdisciplinary theoretical essay at the intersection of musicology, feminist philosophy, art history, and aesthetics. Taking Liza Lim’s “Annunciation Triptych” as its point of departure, Ty Bouque develops an original reflection on sound, the body, language, and representation, bringing musical analysis into dialogue with the writings of Hélène Cixous, Julia Kristeva, Luce Irigaray, and Jacques Derrida, as well as with the iconography of the Annunciation. The volume makes an original contribution to current debates in musicology and cultural theory, opening new perspectives on contemporary composition, feminist aesthetics, and speculative art theory. Its essayistic form and innovative methodological approach make it particularly well suited for academic libraries with collections in musicology, philosophy, gender studies, art history, cultural studies, and literary theory, as well as for public libraries with strong humanities collections.

Radical feminist music theory: Rethinking contemporary music through Cixous, Kristeva, and Irigaray
A unique synthesis of poststructuralism, art history, and contemporary orchestral music in a single volume
For readers who approach avant-garde composition as a tool for philosophical inquiry
Challenges established methods of musical analysis through an embodied, erotic mode of criticism without certainties
Highly relevant: Reimagines female creativity beyond patriarchal symbolic orders and the logics of representation
