Major Works from the Gunzenhauser Collection The collection of works by Otto Dix held by the Sammlung Gunzenhauser is one of the world’s most extensive museum holdings of works by this artist. Numerous paintings, watercolors, drawings, and prints from each of his creative phases provide a representative overview of Dix’s artistic development, from the early expressionist works to the major works of New Objectivity and the great symbolic landscapes from the period of inner emigration, all the way to the picturesque and lithographic late works. This catalog is published on the occasion of the special exhibition “300 × DIX. Works from 1912 to 1969,” which almost completely presents the Dix holdings in the Museum Gunzenhauser for the first time. Complementing existing publications on the collection, a selection of 25 major works by Otto Dix is here presented in detailed separate reviews, including the “Self-Portrait with Hiking Hat” (1912), “Girl on Sunday” (1921), “Red-Haired Woman” (1931), “Winter Landscape with Moon” (1935), and “Saint Christopher VI” (1944).
