Inspired by regional building traditions
A cluster of closely arranged white cone-shaped towers immediately expresses that the design was not inspired by the spectacular architecture of typical Emirate megacities, that has recently dominated the headlines, but by reinterpreting long-established regional building practices. The features characterising the design are derived from the architectural elements wind tower or wind catcher, which have been used for the natural ventilation of buildings in the Middle East for centuries, as well as traditional clay structures with their climate control properties. The overriding idea comprises the approach to architecture, exhibition display, landscape concept, structural design, building services and climate engineering, which were developed and implemented in a close interdisciplinary collaboration.
