'Would you like the musician to disappear in the end?' the author was asked frequently while dealing with the imitation of human-rendered performances by computer models. Yet his only aim was to investigate the relationship between notation and performed music being a highly fascinating topic for both, musicians and listeners. This book provides a synopsis of the matter of performance synthesis followed by an analysis on how 'historically informed' musicians actually play Georg Philipp Telemann. Finally even Telemann's music is rendered by a computer. The initial question about the end of the musician can be seen with a wink, of course, but nevertheless it contains a trace of concern. The author clearly does not want the musician to disappear. However, the question if listeners recognised that Telemann was played by a computer, will be revealed in the last part of the book.
