Beschreibung

In the framework of the Loss and Damage in Vulnerable Countries Initiative, the authors of this study carried out research to find out how the impact of climate change on society leads to loss and damage among vulnerable households. The Report was launched at the UN Climate Change Conference in Qatar in November 2012. "Evidence from the frontlines of climate change: Loss and damage to communities despite coping and adaptation" illustrates that loss and damage have tangible consequences today, and that adaptation as well as loss and damage occur simultanously. Five case studies were conducted in Bangladesh, Bhutan, The Gambia, Kenya and Micronesia. The findings provide empirical insights into the limits of adaptation and the costs of unmitigated climate change. The study reveals that, in all five countries, affected communities suffered from loss and damage despite undertaking coping and adaptation measures.
