The literary and the philosophical traditions in Austria are closely intertwined. This book presents twelve original essays from leading experts who focus on the influence writers and philosophers exerted on each other and the ways philosophy can enhance our understanding of literature; they discuss the work of Kraus, Wittgenstein, Musil, Husserl, Hofmannsthal, Freud, the Vienna Circle, Stifter, Meinong and others. The theoretical approaches are rounded off by sonnets by the contemporary Austrian writer Franz Josef Czernin.
