at the end of July 2001 the G8 summit took place in Genua. It was held with the public excluded to regulate major world affairs of the future. Globalisation critics, who had travelled to Genua, were hindered by huge fences to exercise their right of freedom of assembly. Furthermore, an intolerable tension was produced by an escalation strategy in advance which reminded the resident leftists of the 1970s.
