Industrial Archaeology in its Freiberg interpretation is the science of survey, documentation, interpretation and evaluation as well as of the preservation and the sustainable re-use of the physical remains of the industrial past in the broader context of the history of the industrial society and the cultural, social and economic needs of our society today. Research and education at the Institute for Industrial Archaeology, History of Science and Technology (IWTG) of the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg are based on this wider understanding of industrial archaeology.
