Metaxy – Zwischen Zerstörung und Wiederaufbau / Between Destruction and Reconstruction

How do futures emerge from ruins? In the face of global destruction, ARCH+ explores the cultural, political, and ecological dimensions of reconstruction—beyond the idea of a mere return to order. “Metaxy” (ancient Greek: the in-between) represents the liminal state between the past and a new beginning, between memory and repression. International contributions from Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel/Palestine, Namibia, Syria, Sudan, Ukraine, and the USA show how societies cope with loss and design new ways of life. This issue is published in conjunction with the exhibition Metaxy (Academy of Arts, Berlin, September 10 to December 6, 2026) in collaboration with the Academy of Arts and Ines Weizman (Royal College of Art).
