This literary monograph on the Bangla poet Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) focuses on his ties to present-day Bangladesh and the poetry collection «Stray Birds», which he wrote simultaneously in his native language Bangla and in a parallel version in English, which was first published in New York in 1916. In 1913, the Kolkata-born poet, whose name in his mother tongue Bangla is রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর (Rabīndranāth Thākur), became the first Nobel Prize winner from Asia respectively the non-Western world; he gave his acceptance speech eight years later in Stockholm.
