Stealing the Stolen

The donaufestival 2022 reader Stealing the Stolen evolved from the critical discourse on cultural appropriation. The book published by Verlag für moderne Kunst fathoms the potentials of (re-) appropriation processes of what does not belong or of what was never conceded – in art, in music, in everyday life. Such proposals of counter-appropriations defy hegemonic methods and cultural exploitation tactics. They could cultivate a liberating, resistant practice “from below and elsewhere” that transcends the notions of ownership and theft. With contributions by Jens Balzer, Karl Bruckmaier, Diedrich Diederichsen, Thomas Edlinger, Christian Höller, Larisa Kingston Mann, Larisa Kingston Mann & Boima Tucker, Kalpana R.
