In contrast to differential equations there exist only a few books on difference equations. The present book tries to fill this gap. Various kinds of difference equations are treated systematically and each notion and solution method is explained by a corresponding example. Therefore, the book is also suitable for self-study and enables the reader to solve given difference equations. At the end of the book some applications are presented.

Helmut Länger
Helmut Länger was born in Kirchberg an der Pielach, Austria. He studied mathematics at TU Wien and holds the position of a retired asscociate professor at the Institute of Discrete Mathematics and Geometry of TU Wien. He published two books and more than 160 papers, most of them in international mathematical journals. His main field of research is general algebra with a focus on algebraic structures used in the foundations of mathematical logic. His hobbies are music and hiking.
