In 1978 SASP was founded as an biennial winter conference by members of the Institute for Atom Physics of the University of Innsbruck, Austria. Since the beginning the format of SASP has been similar to that of a Gordon Conference, with invited lectures, poster presentations with ample time for discussion and indoor and outdoor activities. The attendance of the symposium has been kept to about 100 participats. This international symposium seeks to promote the growth of scientific knowledge and effective exchange of information among scientists in the field of atomic, molecular, and surface physics. A special emphasis of this conference will be the focus on nano particles, biomolecules and astrochemistry. The symposium deals in particular with collisional interactions involving different types of collision partners, i.e. electrons, photons, molecules, nano particles, and surfaces.
