In 2000-2014 excavations were conducted on the hill of S. Teresa, occupied from the 2nd half of the 8th century B.C. to the mid-3rd century A.D., the most important ancient site on the volcanic island of Pantelleria midway between the coasts of Sicily and Tunisia which was conquered by the Romans from 255 B.C. onwards. The volume contains four chapters. The first is dedicated to topography and history and brief reports on the surroundings of the antique settlement and its city walls. The second chapter focusses on the hilltop of S. Teresa with its fully excavated Punic-Roman sanctuary zone of eight phases dedicated to Astarte / Tanit, Melqart / Hercules, Bensadiq, and the Roman emperors. It represents the final publication and replaces all preliminary statements on this matter. For the purposes of stratigraphy and chronology chapter 3 includes all major evidence and finds from the sanctuary such as buildings, cisterns, pottery, inscriptions, fragments of architecture and stucco, sculpture of tufa, marble, and coloured marble, as well as minor items. The final chapter refers, partly on the basis of a workshop in 2007, to find categories of the entire excavation or part of them, e.g. metal or bone objects.
