This study analyses the persistent under representation of women in Europe’s innovation ecosystem, despite rising participation in STEM education and research. Building on the EPO’s 2022 study on women inventors, it tracks the “leaking pipeline” from STEM studies to research, patenting, the patent profession and technology based entrepreneurship, using longitudinal patent, scientific publication, labour market and startup data. The findings help policymakers and organisations design targeted measures to advance gender equality and unlock Europe’s innovation potential.
