Analysis of the effects of nitrogen fertilization and post-harvest management on N2O fluxes in rapeseed cropping and the derivation of emission mitigation strategies

Winter rapeseed is a major source for biodiesel production in Germany. Although being an important crop, rapeseed has some physiological and agronomical specifics that may lead to high environmental relevant N losses like the Greenhouse Gas nitrous oxide (N2O). The present cumulative dissertation addresses the analysis of N2O emissions during rapeseed cultivation, the influence factors on the N2O fluxes as well as the derivation of N2O mitigation strategies in winter rapeseed cultivation. After that, several possibilities are developed to ensure a sustainable rapeseed cultivation that synergizes agronomic goals with environmental needs for low Greenhouse Gas emissions.
