The papers in this book comprise a wide range, from describing health inequalities, discussing methodological problems, analysing potential explanations, to generating strategies towards reducing health inequalities. They strengthen the argument that health inequalities are found in all countries where they have been studied, they point to the problem of defining indicators of health in comparisons over time or between countries, they provide new evidence for the importance of specifying explanatory concepts, they discuss potential ways of promoting political support, and they present results from international and national programmes where this support has been gained.
