Issue 6 of “Health Policy Developments” looks into issues high on the health policy agenda of many industrialized countries. It analyzes what impact the introduction of information and communication technologies (ICT) in health systems has on effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of care. Case studies represent various approaches that aim to increase continuity and coordination in the provision of health and social care. This issue also takes a look at evaluation tools to assess medical technologies and procedures (HTA), organizations and providers, and the intended and unintended consequences of health reforms. The reports further exemplify which (new) qualifications health professionals will need to cope with future needs and demands of the health care system. The International Health Policy Network aims to narrow the gap between health services research and health policy. Network partners are research institutions and health policy experts from 20 industrialized countries.
