This work examines the relationship between globalisation process and the socio-economic changes occurring in the rural areas in Tanzania. The author understands globalisation process as an economic, political, technological and social phenomenon. Furthermore, he explains the relationship between Neo-liberalisation, Structural Adjustment Policies and globalisation as applied in Tanzania.
The author’s main argument is that Neo-liberalisation and globalisation have increased the gab between the poor and rich, not only in Tanzania but everywhere world-wide. In spite of the argument that, on the one hand economic data in Tanzania indicate the economic growth, but on the other hand the reality is that this economic growth has not yet reached the poor especially in rural areas. In addition, the social services in general, and health care, education and employment in particular have since then been deteriorating. Thus undermining the sustainability. The entire work is a result of an empirical study conducted in Makete District, Iringa Region in southern part of Tanzania.
