Social professions are indispensable to the cohesion of modern societies. Yet their contributions, interests and professional standards have so far been given too little weight in discussions about framework conditions, responsibilities and recognition. The authors demonstrate that the marginalisation of social professions is not a problem of a lack of visibility, but rather a reflection of structural power relations and systems of organisation. By repositioning social professions, they develop an approach for their deliberate repositioning.
