Based on the increasing computational power, efficient numerical analysis methods for sheet metal forming processes play a major role in the manufacturing industry. The finite element method (FEM) constitutes the main tool in this context and allows improved quality and performance based on virtual design, testing and optimization. However, different aspects have to be taken into account in the field of sheet metal forming. The main phenomena are characterized by anisotropic effects, rate dependent material behaviour, different hardening mechanisms and damage effects. The present dissertation focuses on the application and extension of an efficient material model which can display the discussed effects for a realistic simulation of various sheet metal forming processes. As a result, a finite strain material model with combined nonlinear kinematic and isotropic hardening is investigated for elasto- and viscoplasticity, anisotropy and damage. The modular implementation into commercial finite element software packages has been accomplished for ABAQUS/Standard for implicit and LSDYNA for explicit analysis.
