This thesis presents the measurement and characterization of the vehicular channel by means of a wideband MIMO channel sounder, which was developed and optimized w.r.t. the time variance of the vehicular environment. More specically, in this thesis I address the following four points: a) the development of a wideband MIMO channel sounder for the measurement of the vehicular channel, b) the investigation of relevant issues with the sounding of the MIMO vehicular channel, c) the identication of a method for conducting and categorizing efficiently measurements and d) measurements in order to estimate important channel parameters for the common modeling approaches with a focus on MIMO characteristics.
