In this work the scope of Supported Ionic Liquid Phase catalysis in continuous gas phase was substantially increased and three individual case studies were successfully realised: the oxycarbonylation of methanol, the asymmetric hydrogenation of alpha- and beta-keto esters and the hydroaminomethylation of ethylene with diethylamine. For each of these case studies a continuous gas-phase reaction rig was constructed or modified to allow for flow experiments under constant system parameters (pressure, temperature, gas flow, residence time) and with continuous analysis of the product stream by means of online gas chromatography.
Based on the current state of the art the most promising homogeneous catalyst systems were efficiently transferred into SILP materials with retention of the catalytic species and preservation of the molecular entity of the transition metal catalyst under continuous flow conditions. After intensive screening and optimisation experiments, highly active and selective SILP catalysts were obtained for all three case studies featuring high on-stream stability.
