Texture Optimization of Ni-5at.%W for Coated Conductor Applications

High-temperature superconductors offer a great potential for electrical power applications. To increase their critical current density the coated conductor approach utilizes a Cube textured metal substrate as a template for the epitaxial growth of the superconductor. A high texture intensity of the substrate is essential to achieve sufficient current densities. In this study the thermomechanical processes cold rolling, recrystallization and grain growth which determine the texture development are investigated in detail by experiments and computer simulations for the substrate material Ni-5at.%W. A through process simulation of the texture development in Ni-5at.%W is established and optimal parameters for the formation of an intense Cube texture are determined and discussed.
