Each single drying process has unique characteristics, leading to different advantages and disadvantages. In order to overcome the disadvantages of single drying processes, serial combinations are discussed.
Exemplarily, FD as pre-drying process can have a beneficial influence on subsequent drying processes, like an improved mass transport or a better structure preservation.
This work tries to identify synergetic effects between different single drying processes and to clarify the mechanisms that lead to these phenomena. Therefore, the development of 3-D pore structures during drying is investigated using state of the art micro-CT technology.
