Passenger comfort has become an increasingly important aspect of the design of a vehicle structure which can be provided by reducing noise level and vibrations inside an automobile. More specifically, frequencies from 30 to 200 Hz create discomfort for passengers and cause noise radiation in the vehicle as a result of vibrations in the vehicle's structural body panels. Each body panel affects the overall noise of the body to various degrees and must be addressed separately. Additionally, the automobile industry puts a heavy focus on characteristics such as the inclusion of smart features, a lightweight design, and inexpensive materials, which are also discussed throughout this thesis.
