Processing and Interdiffusion in Multilayer OLEDs

Solution processing is seen as the key to a cost-efficient mass production of OLEDs. It is a great challenge to realize the multilayer architecture as intermixing can occur during the deposition and the drying of the various layers. Within this work it was successfully proven that OLEDs can be processed reproducibly with the pre-metered slot die coating technique. To gain a fundamental understanding of interdiffusion of two solids in presence of one solid a model based on the chemical potential as driving force was developed. This model was validated with Raman spectroscopy measurements and allows the prediction of the degree of intermixing of multicomponent systems.
