The cornerstone of the thesis is to motivate and comprehensively characterise H2 pseudo-optimality in the linear model order reduction of large-scale dynamical systems based on rational Krylov subspaces. The prefix "pseudo" relates to global optimality within a certain subset of all possible reduced models. It is demonstrated how H2 pseudo-optimality may be enforced with marginal computational effort, and its consequences, benefits, and possible applications are thoroughly discussed.
