This dissertation discusses two problems from the field of railway optimization. The first part investigates delay management in passenger transport and provides competitive analysis for several online models with one train line. The second part presents an approach to solving the practical problem of distributing empty freight cars. Motivated by the network model used, special focus is paid to generalized maximum flows in series-parallel graphs.
