Modern engineering design requires flexible functional modelling methods that work across multiple product generations. This thesis presents a new approach focused on functional modelling and identifying "common functions" - functions that stay stable or change only slightly between generations. Recognizing these functions can reduce development time, save resources, and improve system quality.
A key part of the approach is creating a library that stores and manages these common functions. Such a library provides quick access to proven solutions, supports consistent design, and helps engineers adapt functions to new product generations. Overall, combining this modelling approach with a structured function library boosts development efficiency, enhances product quality, and accelerates time-to-market in a competitive environment.
