Rethinking documentary practices through endings, disappearance, and what remains.
What happens when documents disappear, archives decay, networks fail, or histories come to an end? Taking its cue from the familiar error message »404 Not Found,« this volume explores the politics, aesthetics, and affective dimensions of documentary practices via questions of ends and endings. Bringing together perspectives from disciplines including media studies, cultural studies, and the visual arts, the contributions examine loss, interruption, maintenance, memory, and transformation in both analogue and digital contexts. Rather than regarding endings as mere points of closure, they reveal them to be sites of negotiation, care, and possibility.
