Biblical masculinity beyond dominance: care, ambivalence, and transformation.
How have biblical texts shaped ideas of masculinity – and how might they challenge them today? Bringing biblical studies and critical masculinity research into dialogue, the contributors examine how biblical texts construct, contest, and transform male identities. From Jesus as a caring shepherd and Paul’s advocacy for Onesimus to Tertullian’s ambivalent theology of the body and queer practices of subversive hospitality, they explore the tensions between care, power, and masculinity. His research focuses on New Testament exegesis, masculinity studies, and methodological questions in New Testament scholarship, particularly the interpretive potential of contemporary gender theories for the study of early Christian texts.
