Petroleum geology of the Murzuq Basin, SW-Libya: geochemical characterization and numerical petroleum systems modelling

Because of the scarcity of detailed geochemical studies of the Murzuq Basin, the target of this study was to expand upon and add to this knowledge, using such methods as characterisation of organic richness, kerogen type, maturity, hydrocarbon generation and depositional environment. Thus, this study enhances the petroleum geochemistry data-base of one of North Africa's most important basins for future hydrocarbon exploration. The present study represents the comprehensive geochemical results, which were obtained from several analyses, carried out on more than 600 samples (cuttings, core and oil).
