This handbook is a compilation of project outputs achieved within the frame of the EU projects “Baltic Bird – Improved Accessibility of the Baltic Sea Region by Air Transport” and “Baltic.AirCargo. Net project – Improvement of the Air Cargo Transport Sector by Service Oriented ICT-methods and Processing Logistic Network” implemented under the Baltic Sea Region Programme from 2010 to 2014. Both projects were part-fi nanced by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. The handbook is a research endeavour in the light of the changing global and regional setting of the air transport system. It aims at showcasing a potential development roadmap for regional airports and discusses the role of air cargo for regional airports and regional economic development and draws performance and competitiveness potentials for the air cargo forwarding and handling sector.
