The emergence of advanced generative AI tools, particularly large language models, has introduced profound changes to academic research and writing. While such technologies offer significant benefits in improving efficiency and accessibility, they also present challenges to the core values of doctoral education, such as originality, independent thought, and scholarly rigor. This paper examines how universities and academic institutions can uphold the standards of PhD-level research. It describes a framework centered on six pillars. Far from opposing AI, this framework positions it as a tool to be managed within a broader commitment to academic excellence and integrity.
